Call for help.

College can be a fun and exciting experience, but it can also be challenging, overwhelming, and stressful.

If you are concerned about a fellow Vol, observe a behavior that makes you uncomfortable, or you feel like a fellow Vol may harm themselves or others…

Call 865-974-HELP (4357)

974-HELP is a 24/7 referral line that students, faculty, staff, and parents can call if they are worried about the safety and well-being of a student.

Adding mobile safety applications to your smartphone gives you an added layer of protection. Peace of mind is priceless when moving around the campus community.  These apps can be used while traveling across campus or emergency situations to instantly connect you to friends, family, or the police. In the event of imminent danger, call 911 immediately if capable.

Set up a safety profile with your UT e-mail address to access the UT-specific interactive safety features.

Property Location & Safety

You shouldn’t have to live somewhere unsafe just to save money. Before you sign a lease, consider the following:

  • Browse reviews of potential properties before making a decision
  • Visit the property during the day, at night, and on weekends to scope out the environment. Do you feel comfortable or uncomfortable with your surroundings?
  • Review crime statistics for a particular area

Report Crime

Off campus, call 911 (emergency) or 865-215-4010. On campus, call 865-974-3111 (emergency) or 865-974-3114.

Avoid walking alone, especially at night.

Ride the T: Late Nite or call the T: Link to pick you up after hours at 865-974-4080. For more information about riding the T, visit http://ridethet.utk.edu/.

Stay safe from fire.

Have working smoke alarms and a fire extinguisher.
